My first hitchhiking was probably in Israel when I was 14, hiking in the desert with my sister. I started it by my on when I was 18 and since, I enjoy it in a non regularly basis but often enough to keep the spirit alive.

I'm dreaming about hiking in Bosnia, sounds a bad idea because of the mines but after reading [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forgotten-Beauty-Herzegovinas-Selected-Adventures/dp/9958630591 this book] I've been convinced that it's possible if you do it carefully. This guide witch was made by a former ngo worker is really complete, include precise maps and a lot of information about the location of the mined areas.  There is some amazing mountains there in really wild areas. So if any hitchhiker is crazy enough to do it but also wise enough to avoid doing stupid security mistakes, contact me and we'll speak about it.
