A toll road ( tollway, turnpike, pike, or toll highway) is a road for which a driver pays a fee for use.
The building or facility in which a fee is collected is called a toll station (toll plaza, toll booth, or toll gate). Toll stations can be a good option for hitchhikers to get a ride.
In France and French-speaking countries toll roads are called péage.
