Sylt is a German island in the North-Sea close to Denmark. It is famous for its distinctive shape and the holiday resorts catering to the rich and famous. There is basically only one road from the main municipality also called Sylt to the North and South end of the island. Here it is possible to hitchhike, but during the season most people are tourists and outside the season there are not that many people.

The island is connected by to the continent by a passenger train and a car transport train. To get off or on the island you can ask drivers waiting in line to board the train at the respective train stations in Sylt-City or Niebüll.
