Providence is the capital city of Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States, located in New England (the Northeast).
Hitchhikers seeking to hitch out of the city would be better advised to catch a bus to somewhere else in Rhode Island, as it is very difficult to catch a ride in Providence itself.
