Kaohsiung

Hitchhiking out

Northwest towards Taichung or Taipei

Take a MRT to Martial Arts Stadium station. You should see a highway high up and cross on main road after you go out MRT station, walk toward to highway along Zhongzheng 1st Rd to the other side of the highway where has a big green road sign indicates North, and Chengcing lake. You will see the road separate in two roads into a main road and interchange by a long triangle shape space with a white line on the ground, stand on the triangle space and thumb up to the drivers who are heading to the interchange.

South or East towards Taitung or Pingtung

Take an MRT to Martial Arts Stadium station. Leave station from exit No.3. You should see a highway high up and cross the main road after you go out MRT station, walk toward the nearest interchange were next to the stadium. You will see the road separate in two roads into a main road and interchange by a long triangle shape space with a white line on the ground, The triangle space is the thumb up spot. If you don't speak Chinese, you are better to have a sigh of place you are going with you.

If you are going to Taitung, it's a good idea to have two signs, one for Taitung (台東, tai2dong1), and one for Kenting （墾丁，ken3ding1). That way, anyone going to Kenting (which is most people heading south from Kaohsiung) will be more likely to pick you up. Then you can get off at Fenggang (楓港， feng1gang3）and hitch from there to Taitung (see the Taitung page and 'Hitching in' for more info on the Fenggang hitching spot)
