Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan

Hitching Out

West to Bishkek

Take a bus west on Tole Bi street to the final stop Altyn Orad (Russian Zolotaja orad), a market on the edge of the city. Right outside the gate of the market is the beginning of the so-called Tashkentskoe shose. You can hitch from just after the taxi stands. Don't be afraid to take a ride of only a few kilometers, as you can easily hitch on from the side of the road, and reaching Bishkek takes only a few hours. The Kazakh-Kyrgyz border can be crossed on foot.
