N4: == Hitching In and Out ==Sligo is considered a "Gateway City" and provides relatively easy access to Dublinmany destinations within both the Republic and Northern Ireland. Instead of a bypass, also passes traffic is funnelled through or near Carricka dual carriageway within the town, making hitching relatively hassle-On-Shannon, Longford and Mullingarfree.
N15: to Strabane=== East towards [[Dublin]] ===Go uphill along the dual carriageway (Ray MacSharry Road), and A5 on just after the roundabout outside Summerhill College there is a good stretch of hard shoulder. Alternatively, continue about 3km down the road to Derry after crossing the bordervillage of Carrowroe, passing where a fair amount of traffic comes in off the slip road. The N4 to Dublin also passes through or near Bundoran, BallyshannonCarrick-On-Shannon, Donegal Longford and Ballybofey. At Ballybofey, the N13 branches off for LetterkennyMullingar.
N16: through north Co. Leitrim === North towards [[Derry]], [[Donegal]] ===Go northwards on the dual carriageway and crossing it soon changes to the N15 within the border into Cotown. Fermanagh, where it becomes Keep going as far as the A4garden centre and petrol station and there's a decent hard shoulder. The N15 leads to Strabane, running all the way and A5 on to Belfast (M1 Derry after Dungannon). Passes Manorhamiltoncrossing the border, Blacklionpassing through or near Bundoran, EnniskillenBallyshannon, BallygawleyDonegal and Ballybofey. At Ballybofey, Dungannon, Lurgan, Lisburnthe N13 branches off for Letterkenny.
N17: this branches off === Northeast towards [[Belfast]] ===A bit of a walk involved, but worth it. Go northwards out of the N4 at Collooneytown (Manorhamilton Road, 15km from past SligoInstitute of Technology and the roundabout outside the Abbott factory) and continue for about 1.5km until you come to a row of houses with a wide hard shoulder outside them. Careful, this road is winding with little space for pedestrians on much of it. The N16 leads through north Co. Leitrim and leads crosses the border into Co. Fermanagh, where it becomes the A4, running all the way to Galway via TubbercurryBelfast (M1 after Dungannon). Passes Manorhamilton, Blacklion, CharlestownEnniskillen, Claremorris and TuamBallygawley, Dungannon, Lurgan, Lisburn.
N59: from Ballysadare, === South towards [[Galway]] ===Go south on the N17 which is 11km along branches off to the N4 at Collooney, 15km from Sligo. Leads to Ballina which provides easy access From there it leads to much of Co. Mayo. Subsequently runs in a big loop around coastal Co. Mayo and Connemara (Co. Galway) - Crossmolinavia Tubbercurry, Bangor ErrisCharlestown, Mallaranny (next to Achill Island), Newport, Westport, Leenaun, Clifden, Maam Cross, ending at GalwayClaremorris and Tuam.
