Think positive, stay positive, smile and laugh

The results that you get in life are simply a byproduct of your beliefs. So it is very important to belive that hitchhiking will work! Think positive , focus on what you want and tell your friends at what time you will arrive at the latest (like "I will be here for dinner so I will arrive before 20 7 p.m.!"), even if you don't know how you will manage to reach that goaldo this. User Hitchhiker tawax ALWAYS managed to arrive on the day he planned (without cheating) because he is sure it will work! And it convinced hitchhiking works! Just try it!
Standing on dirty boring roads with loads traffic passing by and no one picking you up is as much a part of hitch-hiking as it is to eventually get picked up by a kind-hearted soul. If you're travelling alone, the road is your only companion that is reliably always by your side. If you can manage to have a friendly relationship with it, you'll have a much more enjoyable experience. Obviously, when travelling in a group, the same goes for your human friend(s).
